Their practice is interested in how bodies are shaped by the world around them — by environments, social structures, gender, power and collective behaviour. Zoë completed a PhD at RMIT University in 2021 on the philosophy of the body and currently lectures and supervises research projects sessionally at several Universities. They are the artistic director of Zoë Bastin Dance, who create large-scale contemporary dance performances in public space. Over the past decade, Zoë has presented work nationally and internationally, receiving recognition including a Melbourne Fringe Emerging Company Incubator Award for The Break (2025). As a dancer she has undertaken residencies at Chunky Move’s Minimax, Dancehouse, Bundanon, and Zagreb Dance Centre, Croatia, and participated in the ATLAS Programme at ImPulsTanz, Vienna. Bastin has performed at Dancehouse, The Substation, MADA Gallery, Kings ARI, Seventh Gallery, Bus Projects, Miscellania to name a few.&nbsp; Their collaborative practice spans composers, dancers, and visual artists, exploring the interaction of movement, sound, and space. Zoë’s curatorial and dramaturgical work contributes to shaping contemporary performance, connecting ideas in movement, supporting artists, and fostering knowledge-sharing across the cultural sector.
